Imagine facing a daunting diagnosis of diabetes, cancer, heart disease, or other illness without access to a doctor who specializes in the care and treatment you need. This is the reality for more than 30 million people in the United States.
Safety net clinics deliver critical primary care services for these individuals, many with chronic illnesses. But physician shortages, long wait times for appointments, work and childcare responsibilities, transportation challenges, and other long-standing barriers put specialty care out of reach.
MAVEN Project fills this void by using telehealth to connect primary care providers with expert physician volunteers for consultations, mentoring, and education, so patients receive timely, high-quality specialty care.
